As I sit here typing, Cassandra is scratching on the door to the guest room and loudly voicing her opinion that she ought to be given access to it. (The protector of small animals alone knows why. Whenever she manages to get inside the room, she immediately runs out again.) Bonadea is staring out of the window, making hunter noises; it’s too late in the day for me to see what it is she believes she’s hunting, but then she has night eyes. I suspect it’s the neighbouring kids she thinks she’s stalking.

At Cornell University, researchers have looked into how cats manipulate people.
